Whirlpool refrigerator leak repair
Water on the floor in front of a refrigerator has four common sources and they are four different jobs. A blocked defrost drain, a split water line, a cracked filter housing and an overflowing drain pan look identical from the kitchen and cost quite different amounts. This is a diagnosis before it is a repair.

How this visit actually goes
The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.
-
01
Find where the water actually starts
Under the crispers, from the back, from the door dispenser, or from underneath. The starting point names the circuit.
-
02
Clear the defrost drain
Trough, tube and the check valve at the bottom. Blocked drains are the leading cause of water inside a Whirlpool cabinet and they ice back up if the defrost circuit is also weak.
-
03
Check the water supply side
Inlet valve, the plastic line through the door, the filter head and the tank. Filter heads crack at the thread and weep slowly, which is why they get missed.
-
04
Look at the drain pan and the ice maker
A cracked pan or an overfilling ice maker puts water on the floor from the back with nothing wrong inside.
-
05
Run it wet before closing
The machine is left to cycle and the floor checked again, because most of these leaks are intermittent by nature.

French door · side-by-side · top freezer · quad door · all-refrigerator Whirlpool refrigerator repair in Miami
This is the most common refrigerator in South Florida and the least documented appliance Whirlpool sells. Its own support base carries 156 pages on French door cabinets and 140 on side-by-side, but only 24 and 9 of those are code pages, and on the top-freezer cabinet — 82 pages — there are none at all. That is not an oversight in our research. It is how the make works: Whirlpool talks when it cooks and washes, and it goes quiet when it chills. So a refrigerator call here starts with measurement rather than with a display. Temperatures in both compartments, air at the vents, the state of the defrost circuit, and the door seal that this climate takes apart faster than any other part of the machine.
- French door, side-by-side, top freezer, quad door and all-refrigerator cabinets
- 24 code pages on French door, 9 on side-by-side, none on top freezer
- Indicator lights do most of the reporting: cooling off, door alarm, air filter, H2O
In more detail
About Whirlpool refrigerator leak repair
Where the water is landing tells you what it is
Water inside the crisper is a drain that has iced closed at the back of the freezer. Water at the front of the base is usually the same thing, having found its way along the floor of the cabinet. Water at the back is a line or a valve. A slow patch that only appears in summer is a drain pan overflowing because the machine is defrosting more often than it was designed to in this humidity. In a condominium the diagnosis is urgent for a reason that has nothing to do with the appliance: the damage travels downstairs and it becomes somebody else's ceiling.

Questions about Whirlpool refrigerator leak repair
I mopped it up and it has not come back. Should I still call?
If it was in the crisper, yes. A defrost drain that has iced closed clears itself every time the cabinet is warm and blocks again as soon as it is cold, so an intermittent leak from that source is the normal presentation, not a sign it has fixed itself.
Could it be the ice maker rather than the refrigerator?
It often is, and the fill line and the fill tube are checked as part of this visit rather than as a separate call.
