Whirlpool induction cooktop repair

Induction is a different appliance under the same glass: coils, an inverter and a cooling fan, rather than a resistance element. It is also the cooking appliance most often reported broken when it is not, because a pan that is not ferrous or a pan too small for the zone produces exactly the behavior of a failure. Whirlpool publishes 40 code pages for these, including readings for overheating and for cookware problems.

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

  1. 01

    Test the cookware

A magnet on the base, and the pan diameter against the zone. This make publishes a specific reading for unsuitable or absent cookware, and it means what it says.

  2. 02

    Read the code

Whirlpool publishes E-prefixed and F-prefixed sets for induction and they do not mean the same things as the electric cooktop list. The model decides which applies.

  3. 03

    Check the cooling path

The fan and its intake underneath the cabinet. An induction top installed over a drawer with no clearance overheats and shuts itself down, and that is an installation problem.

  4. 04

Measure the coils and the sensors

Individually, so a single dead zone is not treated as a whole-board failure.

  5. 05

Be straight about the inverter board

It is the expensive part. Where the honest answer is that a replacement top costs less than the board, you will hear that.

    Whirlpool cooktop repair in Miami

The three kinds of Whirlpool cooktop are documented completely differently, and the gap is the most useful thing to know before you call anyone. The electric radiant cooktop has 114 pages with 83 code pages. The induction cooktop has 64 pages with 40. The gas cooktop has 52 pages and zero code pages — not a short list, none at all. Its pages are about surface burners, flame problems, ignition, venting and cleaning, because a gas cooktop has almost no electronics to report anything. So on a gas cooktop the diagnosis is done at the burner, and on the electric and induction ones it usually starts at the display.

About Whirlpool induction cooktop repair

Half of these are not broken

Induction is a coil, an inverter and a cooling fan under the same glass, and it is the cooking appliance most often reported dead when it is working perfectly. A pan that is not ferrous, or one whose base is smaller than the zone expects, produces exactly the behavior of a failure — and Whirlpool publishes a reading for that case, which it means literally. The other common cause is heat: an induction top fitted over a drawer or into a cabinet without the clearance in the specification will overheat and shut itself down, reliably, every time the kitchen is busy.

Questions about Whirlpool induction cooktop repair

How do I know if my pans work on it?

Put a magnet on the base. If it holds firmly the pan will work; if it barely holds it will heat poorly and the zone may not recognize it at all. Base diameter matters too — a small pan on a large zone is read as no pan.

The whole top shut off in the middle of cooking.

That is usually thermal protection rather than a failure, and the cause is almost always clearance or a blocked cooling path underneath. It is worth diagnosing, because an inverter board on these is expensive enough that the alternative is a new top.

Is the inverter board worth replacing?

Sometimes it is not, and that is said plainly. On a machine at this price a new inverter can approach a new cooktop, so you get the part figure and the replacement figure side by side before deciding.
