An electric dryer runs its drum on one leg of the supply and its heat on both, so a breaker that has tripped on one side gives you a machine that tumbles happily and never gets warm. It is the first thing checked and it is free. Check the vent before anything else

Read the indication

Confirm the supply

An electric dryer on one live leg tumbles perfectly and never heats. It is a two-minute measurement and it saves an unnecessary part.

Test the heat circuit in order

Thermal fuse, cycling thermostat, high-limit and then the element or the gas valve. Each one that has opened opened for a reason.

Prove it on a timed dry

Exhaust temperature measured at the wall, not a hand held near the drum.
