### The part everyone wants replaced, and the arithmetic against it

A board is the most expensive single part on most of these machines and it is the one most often blamed without a measurement. On a Whirlpool that matters more than on a premium badge, because the board can be a third of what the whole machine cost. So the sequence is fixed: the circuit the board is accused of killing gets tested first, then the connectors, then the power coming in. Water down a hinge, a browned pin, a pushed-back terminal — those are the ones that come back in a month if the board goes in without them being found.

Confirm it is really the board

A machine that is dead, resetting, or reporting a communication error between two boards is not automatically a board failure. Voltage at the inlet comes first.

Check what feeds it

Loose neutrals, a shared circuit with a large motor load, and storm damage all kill boards, and all of them will kill the replacement too.

Read the harness

Connectors that have browned, pins backed out of a housing, and rodent damage behind a built-in are common and cheap to fix compared with a board.

Order against the model and serial

Whirlpool revises boards mid-production. The number on the old board and the serial on the machine both go on the order.

Test the whole cycle afterwards

The machine is run end to end, not powered on and declared fixed.
